I knew this was going to be a great wedding when Phil over at 21 Films sent Katherine our way. She wanted a photographer that could capture great moments and let the day flow naturally. It was a perfect day to drive from Raleigh up to Henderson, North Carolina to photograph her big day with Matthew.
First I met the bride at her mother’s home. Upon arrival, I drove up a long road with huge beautiful oak trees standing tall outside the house. Katherine and her bridesmaids were laughing while getting their makeup done. Mom was the gatekeeper of time, as dad was getting his suit adjusted by his son. It was busy, but you could feel the happiness in the air.
The next stop was to meet up with the groom. Matthew and his groomsmen prepared for the wedding in a room which was tinted blueish-purple from stained glass inside Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Nervous, yet excited energy filled the room.
The ceremony was short and sweet with a perfect kiss at the end. Portraits followed immediately with family inside the church, while the bridal party opted for the front lawn.
The reception location, The Lake O’ Woods Plantation, is tucked in the woods off a lonely road with wildflower filled meadows and manicured lawns. The property has been placed on the national register of historic places for its rich history. I could see why Katherine and Matthew selected this fabulous location for their wedding reception.
When I arrived, the guests were enjoying the amazing weather by soaking up conversation and sun outdoors. The first dance was delayed due to the couple’s desire to view the Kentucky Derby inside the house. After Animal Kingdom won, the bridal party lined up to be introduced to the reception crowd.
A huge roar filled the tent as Katherine and Matthew took to the dance floor. Cameras were raised to capture the moment as they danced for the first time as husband and wife. Once the music started, the dancing never ended. Everyone had a great time and I still can’t believe how beautiful the day was for the amazing couple. Congratulations!
