Melissa & Rob | Duke Chapel & Nasher Museum Wedding

What do you get when two heart surgeons fall in love? An amazing wedding! We’re so glad Melissa and Rob selected Azul to be the photographers for their Duke Chapel wedding in Durham.

The wedding started off with me (Christobal) capturing the bride getting ready at her home. The family was there, along with Amanda with A Swanky Affair to help her prepare for the wedding. The dress was found in New York, while her cathedral veil was found by her grandmother 96 years ago. The veil was passed down to her daughter which was then given to Melissa to wear for her wedding.

Rob was with his groomsmen as we arrived at Duke Chapel. The ushers were cool, while Rob was anxious to to see the stunning bride for the first time during their first look. Melissa exited the car (Loni’s Antique Cars) and walked towards her groom. Rob’s brother, the best man, watched along with a few others as the couple embraced and kissed. A first look is when the couple sees one another before the ceremony. This gave Melissa and Rob time to connect before the wedding festivities began.

Melissa was escorted down the never ending aisle by her father. Walking past the beautiful stained glass of the historic chapel. Flash bursts from excited guests filled the space as she grew closer to Rob. A kiss on the cheek was given before dad handed Melissa’s hand to Rob. A memorable ceremony commenced with a mixture of traditions. The happy couple walked through family members cheering and congratulating them as they passed.

The reception was at Durham’s Nasher Museum, a wonderful space where art work, sculptures and beautiful florals from 9th Street Flowers greeted guests. Cocktail hour immediately followed for guests as hors d’oeuvres were passed by the Sage and Swift Catering staff. Soft music was played by the band.

A sit down dinner was served coupled with a delicious cake by Sugarland. As the music got louder, the dance floor got packed. The Central Park Band kept the music going and the party rocking playing a mixture of oldies and modern hits. The music was so loud that it set off the silent alarms on some of the exhibits. The highlight of the night is when Rob’s sister serenaded the couple towards the end of the night which was spectacular.

Congratulations Melissa & Rob it was truly an honor to be there for you and call us if you need anything!
